I plan to venture down this path using the 2 blazer stamped OEM cross-members, tank brackets and straps. The frenched-in filler is beautifully done; I'd only add a hinge to the bottom of the cut-out (make that into a vertical door) and a 12x12 screwed in panel to service the fuel pump through.
